Safer Sex

The Team

Mirjam Bader - Director

Hi, I am Mirjam and I do exactly what it says on the tin: manage The Rainbow Project. I am responsible for staff management, fundraising, policy development, day-to-day management and assisting the Board in strategic management. In a previous life I managed a community network and worked for various funding bodies. I hold a BA in Community Development and an MSc in Organisation & Management and love shoes and drinking cocktails (the right credentials for managing a gay and bisexual men's project I think!)

Terry Sergeant - Counselling Manager

I'm the Counselling Manager here at The Rainbow Project and I am responsible for the management of the counselling service, providing counselling sessions, and managing sessional/volunteer counsellors. I am based in our Belfast Office, but also work in the Foyle Centre. I have been working at The Rainbow Project since 2006. Previously, I worked for Social Services, and other counselling agencies in Northern Ireland.

Martin Rolston - Counsellor

I'm a counsellor and work specifically with young gay and bisexual men. I am based at our Belfast Office but also work in our Foyle Centre. I also run a number of different workshops and personal development programmes for men. If you're interested in joining, please get in touch.

David McCartney - Foyle Centre Manager

I have been the Development Co-Ordinator with The Rainbow Project since 2001. I am based in our Foyle Centre, but work throughout Northern Ireland. I am one of the media spokespersons for the organisation. A large part of my work also involves working with the PSNI to improve understanding of the LGBT community and improve services. I was one of the founding members of The Rainbow Project when it launched in 1994.

Sean Morrin - Youth Support Worker

I'm the Youth Support Work and run the Young Men's Empowering Project at The Rainbow Project. I joined The Rainbow Project in 2003 and have worked in the LGBT sector since 1999. I am based at our Foyle Centre but work throughout the north and I am also responsible for our daily drop-in and specific group projects. I am one of our media spokespersons.

Jim Crawford - Physical & Sexual Health Development Officer

Hi everyone! My name's Jim. I am the Physical & Sexual Health Development Officer here at The Rainbow Project. I'm responsible for the health and general well being of the gay/bisexual men in our community! I also work weekly with our Volunteers making up the Safer Sex packs and distributing them to all the commercial venues in the hope to greatly reduce the number of STI's and HIV/AIDS. I have a background in Youth Work and have managed some of the cities busiest gay clubs. Other than that, I've been told I drink waaay to much Gin!!

John O'Doherty - Equality Officer

Hi everyone, my name is John and I am the Equality Offier with the Rianbow Project. I work on Policy and Research for Rainbow on issues such as policing, health and community development. I have a background in Community Development and Social Policy work and am involved in a number of LGBT groups including the Northern Ireland Policing Board LGBT Reference Group and Quire (Belfast LGBT Choir). In my spare time, what little I have, I enjoy reading, movies, singing and dancing. At 24 I am the youngest member of staff and can juggle a heavy social life with a heavy work schedule.

Pat Nairn - Finance & Administration Officer

Hey, I'm Pat and I'm responsible for looking after administration and finance here at Rainbow. I've been working here for 5 years now, having previously worked in financial services. Outside of work, I am interested in gardening, motorbikes, and I have a son who is a famous drag artiste and DJ on the gay scene in Belfast.

Liam Larmour - Mental Health Development Officer

Hi, I’m Liam. I’m the Mental Health Development Officer, and am responsible for developing and delivering services addressing the mental health needs of gay & bisexual men for The Rainbow Project. I am based in the Belfast office, though sometimes work in the Foyle office as well. I have a youth-work background, and currently am the volunteer Coordinator for Gay & Lesbian Youth Northern Ireland (GLYNI) on behalf of Cara-Friend Helplines. I have been involved in the LGBT Sector in various roles for several years. Socially, I’m a nice guy, and enjoy reading, dancing and very bad singing (not publicly). And I’m the teetotaller of the organisation!
