Following our meeting with the Minister for Rural and Agricultural Development last year which highlighted the isolation and lack of access to services faced by LGBT people in rural areas, The Rainbow Project is pleased to assist a new informal social and support group in the Fermanagh area.
The establishment of the Fermanagh Rainbow Community is driven by Frankie Dean who received much local press and attention last year after he was deemed unsuitable for a voluntary position working with young people in his local Church, a decision which was in part based on his minority sexual orientation. Other founding members of the group have also had local media coverage about their negative experiences of growing up and coming out as same sex attracted in Fermanagh. On a more positive note Frankie has also received a lot of support from local businesses, public sector agencies and community groups.
The Aisling Centre in Enniskillen is to be a temporary “home” / monthly venue for the group. Frankie is building contacts and ideas to organise fun social gathering for members of the group and the Rainbow Project is on hand to deliver any professional support services to members of the group if and when needed. This includes counselling and personal development group work. For more information contact firstname.lastname@example.org
The next social is Wednesday 22 February 2012, 6 – 8.00 pm at The Aisling Centre, 37 Darling Street, Enniskillen.A relaxed evening of informal chat and refreshments with professional support and adviceon hand if needed.
