Today, The Rainbow Project officially launched The Foyle LGBT Centre. The Centre will be a hub for LGBT organisations, groups and individuals in the North West as well as the centre for delivering The Rainbow Project’s support and development groups, counselling and sexual health testing services. The Centre was officially launched by Mayor of Derry, Cllr Brenda Stevenson.
Speaking at the launch, The Rainbow Project’s Health and Wellbeing Services Manager, Malachai O’Hara said:
‘We are enormously proud to officially launch The Rainbow Project’s Foyle LGBT Centre during Foyle Pride week. Our hope is that the centre will become a place where all lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or trans people can feel safe and welcome, where they can attend groups and meetings and where they can access the services that they need.
‘We are also delighted that Mayor of Derry, Brenda Stevenson was able to officially launch our Foyle Centre, showing that LGBT communities are at the heart of the city.
‘Of course none of this would be possible without the support of The Rainbow Project’s funders; BIG lottery, Derry City Council, Public Health Agency, Western Health and Social Care Trust and the CLEAR Project.’
