The Rainbow Project has been running Personal Development groups for several years now to compliment the other services we provide such as 1to1 counselling, advocacy, sexual health work, family support and much more.  The course aims to;

 1)      Provide you with a social support network

2)      Improve your overall sense of well-being

3)      Improve your self-awareness and interpersonal skills

4)      Increase your knowledge around Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender issues, history and rights.

The course is now an 11 week programme which includes a break in Week 6 for the group to organise a social activity of their choice and in Week 11 a celebration activity organised by us. All other weeks will take place here at Belfast’s LGBT centre 6.30pm to 9.30pm where we will address issues faced by gay and bisexual men in their lives. The programme is loosely divided into three phases;

 Weeks 1-3           learning about ourselves (27 Sep, 4 & 11 Oct)

Weeks 4-7           learning about our relationships (18 & 25 Oct, 1 & 8 Nov)

Weeks 8-11         learning about specific issues including sexual and mental health ( 15, 22, 29 Nov & 6 Dec)

Common issues discussed include self-esteem, sex, intimacy, relationships, body image, homophobia, coming out, fatherhood, spirituality, and much, much, more. Programmes are often altered to include topics of discussion that you as a group want to spend time on.  All discussions and activities are facilitated in an informal, relaxed and fun way by Rainbow Project staff, volunteers and occasional guest speakers.  It is expected that aspects of the course will sometimes present personal challenges and learning experiences for everyone and additional therapeutic support is available if required.  There will be a maximum of 15 places (for men aged 18+) and there will be a good spread of age ranges and backgrounds.

Places will be awarded on a first come first serve basis so please let us know if you are available to attend the whole course and want to reserve a place NOW confirming your correct name, age, telephone, address, email and any particular needs you may have.

For those of you who aren’t sure or haven’t met us in person yet we are having an open information evening on Thursday 20th of September 2012 at 6.30pm -7.30pm again here at the LGBT centre or you can ring to arrange an individual meeting if you prefer.  Again please let us know if you wish to attend this too.

Should you require any further information, please don’t hesitate to call or email myself  or my colleagues and
