Event FAQs
No appointment necessary. However if you're travelling from outside of Belfast for the clinic, you may contact us by call (028 90 319 030) or text (079 04 864 861) to ensure you are seen. Â
Our HIV/syphilis tests are for a) men who are gay, bi or have sex with men b) trans and non-binary c) anyone at risk or in high distress around their HIV status. You must be at least eighteen years old to receive an HIV/syphilis test at The Rainbow Project.Â
We are only able to test for HIV & syphilis. However, our sexual health officer can signpost you to access testing elsewhere such as SH24. When will I get my test results? You will receive your test results at the end of your appointment.Â
We will contact GUM clinic on your behalf, and they'll get in touch with you to arrange either immediate treatment (syphilis) or confirmatory testing (HIV)Â
Each test (including our pre-test questionnaire) takes approximately thirty minutes.Â
We will ask you necessary questions about your recent sexual health (i.e in the past 12 months; what kind of sex did you have, did you use protection or not, how many sexual partners did you have, did you use any drugs or alcohol, did you know your partners STI status etc.) Then we'll prick your finger with a virtually painless single-use lancet to collect a few drops of blood. Whilst we wait for your results to appear, we'll provide you with information tailored to your needs on how to best support your sexual health further. We will then inform you of your results and if necessary we can refer you onto GUM for treatment or further testing.
The only time we'd pass on your confidential information (such as your name and contact details) is when you have a 'reactive' result meaning you must be referred onto GUM clinic for treatment or confirmatory testing.Â
The clinic is on first-come, first saved basis. So it depends on how busy that month's clinic is. You could be seen immediately or have to wait 30 minutes to 1 hour.Â
We offer HIV/syphilis testing Monday-Friday 10am-5pm by appointment. Contact us by call (028 90 319 030) or text (079 04 864 861) or book online via www.rainbow-project.org/bookonline
