This one-day training seeks to offer some of the most contemporary thinking, about providing therapy for the full range of GSRD clients seeking help. We shall explore some of the core concepts and common themes when working with these populations (examining the role of minority stress, microaggressions, intersectionality, and the impact of shame and trauma on GSRD people).
When we share a minority identity, we have a particular set of challenges to both our self-awareness and self-care; ensuring we’re able to keep the client at the centre of our gaze. This training will invite participants to engage in the process of self-reflection and experiential learning. We can only accompany our clients as far as we have gone ourselves.
As the new Memorandum of Understanding on Conversion Therapy v.2 makes specific requirements and obligations concerning training, we shall explore how we as therapists should respond to requests to change gender and sexuality when coming from deeply conflicted members of the community.
