Our Campaigns

Creating Change
Through Advocacy

At The Rainbow Project, we work to create a more equal, inclusive and supportive
society for LGBTQIA+ people across Northern Ireland.

Through our campaigns, we raise awareness, influence policy and empower communities to take action on issues that affect people’s lives every day.

Our advocacy work focuses on advancing equality, protecting human rights and improving health and wellbeing outcomes for LGBTQIA+ individuals and communities.

Banning Conversion Practices

Ending Harmful Conversion Practices

Banning Conversion Practices

Conversion practices are harmful interventions that seek to suppress, change or deny a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity. These practices can have lasting impacts on mental health, wellbeing and personal dignity.

The Rainbow Project is campaigning for comprehensive legislation that protects LGBTQIA+ people from conversion practices and ensures everyone can live authentically and safely.

U=U | Undetectable = Untransmittable

Challenging Stigma. Promoting Knowledge.

U=U | Undetectable = Untransmittable

A new informational leaflet and public health campaign have been launched by LGBTQIA+ organisation The Rainbow Project, aiming to improve societal understanding of living with HIV. This is a first in Northern Ireland, where there have been no HIV-specific public health campaigns since the initial epidemic in the late 80s and early 90s.

The campaign focuses on ‘undetectable’ HIV. Someone who is HIV positive becomes undetectable when, thanks to effective treatment known as ‘Anti-Retroviral Therapy’ or ‘ART’, their viral load becomes so low that it cannot be passed to their sexual partners. Up to 97% of people living with HIV in Northern Ireland are undetectable, and therefore none of those people can pass this on to sexual partners.
