More than 450 people came together in Ormeau Park, Belfast on Sunday 19th July for The Rainbow Project’s first ever Run With Pride event, helping to kick off Belfast Pride Week with a celebration of community, inclusion and wellbeing.
Kindly sponsored by The Maverick Belfast and supported by Lidl Northern Ireland and Belfast Front Runners, the inaugural 5K event welcomed members of the LGBTQIA+ community, allies, friends and families from across Northern Ireland and beyond.
Participants of all ages and abilities took part in the traffic-free route through Ormeau Park, with runners, joggers and walkers enjoying the park’s scenic tree-lined paths. Everyone who crossed the finish line received a commemorative medal and a pair of rainbow laces to mark the occasion.
Run With Pride was created to provide an inclusive and welcoming space for people to get active, meet others and celebrate Pride together. The event also highlighted the importance of physical and mental wellbeing, community connection and visibility for LGBTQIA+ people across Northern Ireland.
A participant of The Run With Pride said:
‘’It was brilliant, very well done! Best run I’ve ever attended, certainly in terms of atmosphere, compère at start was first class, also ran through parts of Ormeau Park I never knew – which is saying something!’’
The Rainbow Project would like to thank The Maverick Belfast, Lidl Northern Ireland and Belfast Front Runners for their support in helping deliver the event. Special thanks also go to Pure Bent for bringing energy, entertainment and plenty of fun to the morning, helping get participants warmed up and ready for the run.
We would also like to thank the volunteers and the more than 450 participants who helped make the inaugural Run With Pride such a memorable and successful event.
Following the success of this year’s event, The Rainbow Project hopes Run With Pride will continue to grow and become a regular fixture within Belfast Pride celebrations for years to come.
