Christopher Mcllwaine

I am the Trans Family Support Officer for SAIL NI, a family support service for families of trans and gender-diverse children and young people.

I work directly with trans youth and their families, offering guidance, connection, and reassurance as they navigate their experiences. A central part of my role is creating an environment where young people feel heard, understood, and empowered.

I have been involved in supporting the LGBTQ+ community in Northern Ireland since 2017 with a background in youth work. Since 2019, my work has focused primarily on trans and gender-diverse communities, with an emphasis on advocacy, community development, and fostering inclusive spaces where people feel recognised and valued.

Alongside my role at SAIL NI, I have been involved with the Belfast Trans Resource Centre in a variety of capacities and currently serve as Chair Director. Through this work, I remain committed to strengthening community connections and improving access to support for trans and gender-diverse people across Northern Ireland.”
