Peace by Peace Conference

The idea for this conference has evolved from a series of conversations, ‘Pride in Our Identities’ facilitated by Community Dialogue and the Rainbow Project in Belfast and Derry/Londonderry during the period 2017-2018. To celebrate the Rainbow Project’s 25th Anniversary in 2019 we wanted to take these conversations on multiple identities and intersectionality to the next level and invited further collaboration with the wider LGBTQ+ sector and beyond.

So far CarafriendNI, HereNI, Transgender NI, LGBT Humanists and UNISON have joined the Peace by Peace initiative which seeks to explore the cross roads where the march for true and lasting peace here meets the march towards a truly equal, diverse and inclusive society.

In the morning participants can expect to;

Be inspired by a range of LGBTQ+ and other speakers addressing personal and professional perspectives on peace building and diversity practice throughout business, voluntary, public and other sectors of society.

Reflect on how a range of other knowledge, skills and attitudes may be transferred between peace building and other sectors of society.

Dialogue their own personal and/or professional views and experiences on peace building and diversity practice.

After a networking lunch and performance peace from Queertopia, participants will also have an opportunity to;

Engage with a speaker panel of practitioners addressing current and historical challenges to peace building and diversity.

Explore personal and collective actions which potentially outline the way forward for future peace building and diversity.

This free conference will take place at UNISON on the 18th September from 10am – 4pm. If you would like to attend, or have any questions, please contact Dean Lee at dean@rainbow-project.org.uk
