SSE Airtricity and the Rainbow Project’s new campaign aims to drive awareness for the organisation and the support services they provide.
Last year The Rainbow Project announced its funding partnership with SSE Airtricity. SSE’s support has led to the creation of a Migrant and Ethnic Minorities Officer intending to support migrant and ethnic minority communities who are also LGBTQIA+, including asylum seekers and refugees. The officer engages with them in development, and support services and leads on intersectional and ally work. The Rainbow Project currently runs a group for BAME communities called GEG and also supports Asylum seekers.
Chougher Doughramajian, Migrant and Ethnic Minorities Officer, The Rainbow Project, said: “I am empowered and motivated by the work I do for my community in my role. Throughout the past few months, I have engaged with several new and old GEG members who have continued to remind me of the importance of my role and the existing need in the community for it. It is fulfilling to know that our work at Rainbow can truly be life-changing for members of the LGBTQIA+ community in Northern Ireland.”
Aisling Playford, Policy and Advocacy Manager said: “We are delighted to see this campaign be launched to show the diversity within the LGBTQIA Community and create more awareness of our work. Through the funding, we have been able to employ a part-time role Migrant and Ethnic Minorities Officer. The creation of a dedicated role means that we were able to employ someone like Chougher who can use her lived experience to assist others and help to improve services for LGBTQIA+ people of colour, migrant and minority ethnic communities here in Northern Ireland.”
The new campaign, headlined, “We are Northern Ireland”, amplifies The Rainbow Project’s main mission: to make everyone feel like they are not just a part of the LGBTQIA+ community – but part of Northern Ireland. Members of the LGBTQIA+ community are featured in the campaign which you will see across many channels including digital channels and billboards across Northern Ireland. The campaign reinforces the main message:
“The Rainbow Project gives a voice to all members of the LGBTQIA+ community. In this rainbow, all colours get equal focus.”
